The correct quote is, "The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves"... that was fun :)
see I thought it was:
"The future has not been written. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves."
... but maybe it is restated over the trilogy.
The theme caries well until the last movie when they dump that theme altogether and go with "Why fight fate", which is about as bad as the Matrix finale. "The future has not yet been written." is another quote that carries through the movie(s), but Krishen's right.
